Security

Don't give high-tech thieves the key to your accounts! You can protect you money by being informed and on guard. The key to any of your financial accounts is your account number and it's up to you to conceal that key from high-tech thieves.

- NEVER give your account numbers over the phone!
- NEVER give out your pin number!
- NEVER discuss, compare, or share information about your account numbers with anyone unless you are willing to give them full use of your money!

A fraudulent telemarketer or direct-mail piece may seem to be selling a service or product, but the swindler's actual intent is to get your account numbers. Equipped with this vital information, the thief can encode your number on a false demand draft or check which looks like and functions like an authorized request for withdrawal.

The bogus paper, even with your signature missing, is difficult to detect and often clears for payment. In fact, it's usually not noticed until monthly statements call attention to the theft.

NOTE: The law governing electronic transfer of funds limits efforts to prosecute this type of theft if the account owner has voluntarily furnished access to the account.

You can stop the scams. Don't reveal your account or PIN (or debit or credit card) numbers for any of these similar appeals:

"Here's a without-risk investment!"

"Offer too good to be true!"

"It's free, just pay us for..."

"You must decide now."

"Do we have your account number correct?"

"It's easy; we'll bill your account."

"You've won! We'll take the taxes out."

You can protect your accounts. Never give your account numbers, whatever ploy might be used to get them. If you have revealed the information, inform us at once and authorize a stop-payment order on checks or demand drafts. We're here to help.
